Unfortunately a tree fell on my car, fortunately we were not in it. We were still inside, running five minutes late for school. If I had been on my schedule, we would have been busy fastening seat belts and arguing over who put their bag down on the front seat first. Instead the girls were still working on finding matching shoes and locating homework, while I was speed packing four lunches.
Unfortunately we really do need to get to school, fortunately we have plastic and duct tape to fix it. My youngest daughter kindly lends me her special yellow duck tape when we can't find our regular gray roll. With a bandaid of cloudy plastic and colored duck tape, we limp to their two schools and then I drag myself to work.
Unfortunately large parts of the car are banged and bruised and perhaps broken, fortunately we have full of coverage, low deductible insurance. The time spent on the phone with the insurance company actually cheers me up. They are so nice and helpful and kind to me! I can't even count the number of times I was asked if I was okay, even after I said we weren't even in the car.
Unfortunately they wanted to total the car and give us a piddly amount of money, fortunately they changed their mind cause I am nice and sweet and kind. After driving an hour to meet the adjuster, I leave in tears feeling hopeless. My car is getting old, a Saab, and therefore very expensive to find the parts now. He calls me back later that day to suggest maybe we can work it out so that we don't have to total it, since it is still fairly drivable. I get to drive a rental car, a Ford Escape, for almost two weeks while this is all figured out.
Unfortunately the few repairs we did opt for ate up half of the insurance check leaving piddly (again), fortunately we will be able to use the left over money to start a savings plan to get a new car. Now the car will be perfectly fine for driving through the rest of the winter and into the spring. I am hopeful and perhaps wishful that when gardening work picks up we can start to save more money.
Unfortunately when I pick up the car the oil light comes on half way home, fortunately I have an awesome car repair guy that makes house calls. The car has some known oil problems, but never the light coming on and staying on. Limping home with three kids and fresh new oil and the light still on, I cross my fingers this will all pass quickly.
Unfortunately my mechanic is booked and swamped, fortunately he can try to swing by on his way home from work tomorrow to look at it. Love living in a small town with people who care about each other. Obviously it must just need an oil change, right? It is not going to be the oil pump or the turbo and thousands of dollars of repair.
Unfortunately I will not be here as the kids have gymnastics, fortunately my car will stay home and I can borrow my husband's truck. We are a way over scheduled family that relies in two cars most days, we can try to share a little bit. More time in the car means more time together, good family bonding.
Unfortunately borrowing his truck means I will also have to pick him up after work around 5:30, fortunately I will be just be heading home from the second of three gymnastic practices of the day. My middle muffin will be finished around 4:45, perfect timing for me to drive straight to husband's work, which will add an extra 20 minutes to the busy evening schedule. Quality time, in the truck, together.
Unfortunately that means I will have to then immediately return to pick up the last daughter from gymnastics, fortunately I can start something for dinner in the crock pot. By the time I return from picking up my husband, I will just have enough time to close up the chicken coop, stoke the fire, and dig out kid pajamas before I will head back out for the last momma taxi ride of the day.
Unfortunately there is nothing to put in the crock pot for dinner, fortunately we have chickens and lots of eggs. We will have breakfast for dinner. With breakfast for dinner we can pretend at least this hard day, or maybe even month, hasn't happened and start all over again.
Fortunately everyone here is already asleep. I am off to bed.
